  • CDC Hardship Fund – anyone already on Council Tax Reduction scheme will receive up to £150 per household
  • CDC Small business grant of £10,000 for all business in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief
  • Business rates holiday (12-months) for all retail, hospitality, leisure and nursery businesses in England
  • Emergency fuel vouchers(£28 for an individual and £49 for a family) are available from Citizens Advice to help vulnerable households meet their energy costs – pre-payment meter customers who meet the scheme’s Eligibility criteria (some clients may qualify for more than one voucher)
  • Discretionary Housing Payment Fund – if you receive Housing Benefit or Universal Credit and are having difficulty meeting rent payments, you may be able to get extra help from the Discretionary Housing Payment Fund – to support people in real financial difficulty to help them meet their housing costs  CDC benefit info or  apply using form which has been designed to make for a quick and easy application process:

Finance concerns due to Coronavirus:

  • Mortgage – Ask your provider for a payment holiday (this won’t affect your credit rating)
  • Rent – talk to your landlord
  • Council tax – let Chichester District Council know as soon as possible
  • Ensure you have the best deal from your electricity supplier
  • Information on benefits and government help on the Government website
  • Other debts – talk to the lender/creditor
  • Anything else – talk to Step change Step Change or citizens advice
  • Post Office scheme for vulnerable people – two of its products – ‘Payout now’ and ‘Fast PACE’ (a pre-authorised cheque encashment service) available to all UK’s banks, building societies and credit unions so they can be offered to any of their customers who are most in need of access to cash simply and speedily during this national emergency – Post Office

Rubbish – Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRS) across West Sussex are now open with some limits.   A visit should only be undertaken if the journey can be considered essential. At present, household waste collections continue as normal.

Disposing of rubbish should you have a confirmed or suspected case of Covid-19 in your household it is IMPORTANT to follow the guidance to protect staff and services:

  • All rubbish/recycling should be double bagged and tied.
  • You should then wait 72 hours before putting it in your outside bin.
  • Bin handles should be cleaned.

Registration services – offices in Midhurst are currently closed.

  • Death registration appointments are conducted via phone.
  • Birth registrations are currently suspended but parents can now make a claim for child benefit or universal credit, prior to the birth being registered.
  • Marriages & Civil partnerships have been postponed until at least 1 June 2020.

Bus passes – Pensioners and vulnerable people with West Sussex County Council bus passes can now use them earlier on weekdays to take advantage of some supermarkets’ first hour of trading for older and vulnerable shoppers.

Bonfires – Chichester District Council encourage people to consider the health of local residents with respiratory problems and not light fires if this can be at all avoided.
